Ondo State chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria has commended Governor Olusegun
Mimiko for initiating a bill that would provide for the establishment of the Primary Health Care
Development Board.
The chairman of the PSN in the state, Mr. Samuel Adekola, who stated this after the inauguration of a new executive of the association in Akure on Saturday, said the development would make health care delivery more accessible to rural dwellers.
He said the public hearing conducted by the House of Assembly Committee on Health afforded
stakeholders the chance to offer useful advice on how to enhance a perfect primary health care delivery in the local communities in the state.
Adekola also commended the state for establishing the directorate of pharmaceutical services in the
state’s Hospital’s Management Board and demanded the upgrade of the board to a Health Service
Commission.
He said the upgrade of the board to a full commission would enable all stakeholders in the health care delivery in the state to contribute their quota to the overall success of the health policy of the current administration.
The PSN chairman pledged that his executive would support all the health care policies of the state
government with a view to reducing to the barest minimum, cases of preventable deaths and diseases
both in the rural and urban centres.
He said, “We assure the general public that as pharmacists, we will continue to collaborate with other members of the health team for the utmost benefits of the Ondo people.”
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, who was represented by a senior official in the
ministry, Dr. Richard Omosa, commended the pharmacists for supporting the various health care policies of the state government.
