Mimiko Lauds Health Workers on Service Delivery

HEALTH workers in Ondo State have been commended for their strict adherence and dedication to the health care policy of the State government. The state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, gave the commendation, on Wednesday, during an unscheduled visit to the state Specialist Hospital in Akure, where medical teams from India and Bangladesh were administering free treatment on the people courtesy of Rotary International and the State government.
Dr Mimiko expressed happiness on the level of collaboration between the local and foreign medical experts, noting that the exercise would add value to the lives of the people as the effort was aimed at complementing the health care policy of the state government, which according to him had continued to receive accolade from within and outside the country.
The governor, who was conducted round different departments of the hospital, including dental centre, male and female theatres, Millennium Eye Centre and screening centre by the
state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, commended the Rotary International for
the initiative. He said: “I want to thank Rotary International and local Rotary for choosing
Ondo State as one of the states that will benefit from their medical mission. I have gone
round. I have seen the great work done and it is profound in terms of the number of patients
so far attended to and in terms of the speed of their intervention, most especially the support
given to them by our local experts. We can see that most of them come from India, Bangladesh and Asia generally.”
“I think this is a very productive mission. We can see that our people are very happy and the
high turnout. I want to say that the comments I got from the visiting doctors are encouraging
because they said that we are very prepared for the exercise. “In terms of our equipment
profile and attitude of our medical team on ground, we observed that the doctors here are
happy locally, the visiting doctors are happy, Rotary members are happy,” Mimiko said.
The state Commissioner for Health disclosed that about 1,200 patients have been screened,
including 90 operations, 300 dental cases while 12 cataract patients had regained their sights
through operation. He added that the gesture had saved the patients millions of naira.
